Ten Low-carb/Keto Super Bowl Snack Ideas

The Super Bowl (or any party event) does not mean you have to splurge on high-carb, sugary foods. There are actually lots of foods you will find at most parties that will keep you on track. But, to be sure, the best idea is to bring your own! Here are some easy low-carb and keto-friendly treat and beverage ideas to let you enjoy the game without the guilt.

  1. Wings! Yep – the most popular snack at Super Bowl parties is the perfect low-carb keto snack. You can bake them with a few simple seasonings and then toss them with a buffalo sauce (Frank’s Hot Sauce and butter). Then bring them in a crock pot to keep them warm. Make sure to bring lots of napkins!
  2. Charcuterie Board – sounds fancy but this is so easy and fun! A charcuterie board is simply a meat and cheese board! You can make these as fancy as you like by including some interesting cheeses, fresh berries, pickled vegetables, olives, and even a little bacon jam. No need to add crackers or bread.
  3. Fresh vegetables with a dip. These days the vegetables can be bought already cut up so that really adds a shortcut (pun intended). Make sure to choose the low-carb veggies such as celery, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, and asparagus. The dips can be a bit more challenging. Of course it is always healthier to make your own but there are some prepared ones that will suffice. Check your ingredients!
  4. Chili – just make your usual recipe and skip the beans to make it really low-carb. I like to add riced cauliflower to give it more texture and add a dose of a healthy vegetable. There are some carbohydrates in the tomato and onion but this is still a great low-carb party food. Bring it in the crockpot to keep it warm. Also bring a side of shredded cheddar as a garnish.
  5. Smoked sausage or kielbasa – just heat it up or put it on the grill, slice it up and throw it in the crockpot with some sliced onions and peppers. Maybe even add a little BBQ sauce (homemade or check your ingredients for sugar). Again, no need for the bread.
  6. Sliders – or full-on burgers. A bit more work but if your host has a grill ready to go (or if you are the host) you can bring pre-formed burgers or sliders, add some cheese and pickles. Serve with lettuce leaves as the “bun.”
  7. Meatballs – can be made ahead of time and even frozen. Make them small enough to serve with toothpicks or small skewers. These are great with a side of marinara sauce and some fresh parmesan cheese to sprinkle on top.
  8. “Mac” and cheese – while I would classify this as more than a snack, I assure you it will go over well at a party! This can convince your friends that cauliflower really can taste good – and decadent! Click on this link for my recipe https://tastefullyunrefined.com/mock-mac-and-cheese/.
  9. Beer – yes, you can really drink beer on a low-carb and keto diet. You do have to be pretty careful and select those beers with lower carbs. I am a beer snob and only like IPAs. I was surprised to find that there are a few low-carb IPAs out there now. I recently tried Dogfish Slightly Mighty with just 4 grams of carbohydrates per 12-oz can. While not my favorite beer, it quenches the thirst for that cold beer during the game!
  10. Meat and Cheese roll-ups – more work than the charcuterie board perhaps but really delicious! Choose a thinly sliced salami and provolone cheese, spread a little cream cheese on the salami (keep the cheese on the bottom), add a pepperoncini, and roll up. Secure with a toothpick…YUM!
  11. Deviled Eggs – OK – this one’s a bonus! Make them with your usual recipe but use healthy mayo (here’s mine) https://tastefullyunrefined.com/simple-homemade-mayonnaise/ and add top with some bacon or smoked salmon. These will be the first to go!

Give these a try and enjoy the game!
